Home » Back Room » Motoring discussion View Threaded Fri 10 Apr 2009 19:38 Mazda 6 Tamura 18" wheels? - Videodoctor I love the look of the Mazda 6 sport but was put off by the 2.5 litre engine.Since the "6" came out they have launched a special edition called the 'Tamura'.Its based on the ts model but with full body kit and tinted windows.This model suits me perfectly as its got a 2 litre engine instead.The only thing that worries me is the 18" wheels.HJ has said in his review that you should avoid the 18" and stick with the 16" or 17" for the better ride. I generally like a softer ride so the 18" wheels could be a problem.I have asked 2 dealers if they would swap the 18" for something smaller but they said they would but i'd have to buy the other wheels!. So my question is for anyone who drives a Mazda 6 with 18" wheels.Do they ruin the ride quality or am i being worried for nothing. I haven't test driven the Tamura yet but intend to do so shortly. They best dealer price is £15,695.Has anyone paid less than this at a dealer?(not internet price) Thanks Reply to this message | Report message as offensive | Link Fri 10 Apr 2009 22:15 Mazda 6 Tamura 18" wheels? - merlin I like the idea of the Mazda 6 Sport too because of the look plus my positive experience from owning a 626. However I also want a good ride so I had been put off test driving it because of HJ's comments about the 18" wheels. However last week I was in a Mazda dealership with some time to spare and a salesman talked me into taking out the new 2.2 diesel estate sport for a short test drive. I really wanted to like it and to my surprise I thought the ride was ok. It was no magic carpet but based on the short drive I would like to go out again trying it on different roads of my own choosing. Get a test drive of a TS2 and then the sport. I have a Sport with 17" on low profile and find it was better than the 16" regualars on my Mondeo mk3. Just be careful with the parking and keep a little distance from the kerb. When I first test drove a Mondeo Mk III to see if I liked it at all it was a Zetec S on 18" wheels. The ride surprised me - nothing like the ride of a previous Golf GTi on 16" rims. Okay I wanted a Ghia on 16" rims and then arranged a 48 hour test drive. But you might be surprised that the 18" wheels do not compromise the ride too much. But remember the replacement tyres will be more. I would have expected the 17" to be harsher but they were not, so its more down to the chassis and shocks etc.. Reply to this message | Report message as offensive | Link Mon 13 Apr 2009 19:04 Mazda 6 Tamura 18" wheels? - riddelp On the price just Ive been looking at this Mazda6 too but I live in Northern Ireland and the best deal I could find was for a nearly new one with 1888 miles on the clock in BLACK from Romford Mazda for £13990 I only wish they made this with one of the new 2.2 Diesels even the 125HP one but I take it they have no problem selling the diesels so no special editions. I'll just have to stick to my 6 year old 71000 mile 121ps TS diesel for a while longer. Reply to this message | Report message as offensive | Link Tue 14 Apr 2009 08:10 Mazda 6 Tamura 18" wheels? - jc2 I've got low profiles on two Fords I own,but Ford,unlike some manufacturers tune the suspension to suit the wheels.Many manufacturers just put on a set of "bling" wheels-just like aftermarket wheels.Ford do offer aftermarket alloys tho' but at least they fit without the use of adaptors or rings. I was also a little wary of the suggested harsh ride with 18? wheels but, rest assured, the ride quality is excellent. From my experience you shouldn?t have to pay more than £15000. In many ways the all-new Mazda3 is a 'baby Mazda6' bringing the elegant excitement of that model's distinctive lines to the C-segment. "The new Mazda3 Tamura will bring extra appeal to a broader range of customers, including younger drivers, with its unique sports styling and great value for money," comments Mark Cameron, Sales and Marketing Director, Mazda UK. "The Mazda3 Tamura brings the sophistication, style, technology and refinement of the Mazda6 to the compact family car market. The new Mazda3 Tamura's benefits from the same bold shape of the standard Mazda3 with its lowered aerodynamic drag to a class-leading Cd0.30 - the improved aerodynamics and retuned powertrain resulting in significant reductions in CO2 emissions and fuel consumption over the previous model. The 1.6-litre petrol engine, which generates 105ps, is mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and accelerates the Tamura to 62mph in a brisk 12.2 seconds. The CO2 output for the 1.6-litre petrol has been cut to 149g/km (from 162g/km on the previous generation 1.6 models) and the combined fuel economy figure for the new Tamura is 44.8mpg. All new Mazda3 models are available to purchase under the new Government-backed scrappage scheme, with an increased Mazda Allowance of £2,000, in addition to the £1,000 Government contribution - so Mazda3 Tamura ownership can start at just £11,995. Mazda UK is supporting the scrappage scheme by offering two special finance deals to 'scrappage sales' customers. Adding to the sporty styling cues of the exterior, the Mazda3 Tamura has numerous features as standard including: remote central locking, dual-zone climate control air-conditioning, welcome mode lighting, a leather steering wheel with audio controls, an MP3 compatible audio system with six speakers and auxiliary (AUX) jack input, as well as power folding mirrors and electric front and rear windows. Safety is paramount on all-new Mazda3 with a host of equipment that includes Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) and a Traction Control System (TCS), six airbags and an Emergency Stop Signalling (ESS) System standard on all models. This new ESS system automatically activates the hazard warning lights at cruising speeds when the ABS sensors detect emergency braking. A choice of four body colours for the Mazda3 Tamura is available - including one new metallic (Aluminium Silver Metallic) two regular Mica colours (Black Mica and Velocity Red Mica), and the unique-to-Tamura Gunmetal Blue Mica, offered on just 255 examples of the 850 Mazda3 Tamura models being manufactured for the UK market. Mazda2 and Mazda6 Tamura Special Edition models are also available from £11,015 (OTR) and £17,570 (OTR) respectively. The Mazda2 Tamura is based on the popular Mazda2 1.3-litre 86ps model with the addition of a Sports Styling Pack (including front and rear sports bumpers, 2-bar sports grille, side skirts and rear spoiler), new four cylinder headlamps, 16-inch alloy wheels, special 'Tamura' badging and free metallic paint. The Mazda6 Tamura, based on the Mazda6 2.0 5dr TS model, also boasts a Sports Styling Pack (including front and rear sports bumpers, side skirts and rear spoiler), plus privacy glass, clear rear light bezels, unique 18-inch alloy wheels and special 'Tamura' badging. Inside, this Tamura features alloy pedals and branded Tamura floor mats.
